The Operations Department protects public health by implementing mosquito and vector control strategies throughout the San Gabriel Valley. Using Integrated Vector Management (IVM), field staff prevent and reduce mosquito populations through a combination of biological, physical, and chemical control methods.

Operations staff inspect and treat mosquito sources, including neglected swimming pools, ponds, underground storm drains, rivers, flood channels, spreading basins, street gutters, and other standing water sources where mosquitoes develop. These efforts help reduce the risk of mosquito-borne diseases such as West Nile virus, dengue, and Zika.

The department also works closely with city officials, public agencies, and community partners to improve infrastructure, eliminate mosquito conditions, and respond to emerging public health threats throughout Los Angeles County and the San Gabriel Valley.
