The EcoHealth Educator Toolkit shares resources to support science education and reduce mosquitoes in and around our homes and schools. This newsletter reflects our commitment to providing excellent educational services to schools and families in the San Gabriel Valley.

From the Classroom to the Front Lines

Hi Educators,

In the wake of the Eaton Fire, the San Gabriel Valley faced a massive public health challenge with unmaintained swimming pools, each capable of producing 3 million mosquitoes a month. Our District offered mosquito control support in the Eaton area and managed nearly 2,900 swimming pools within and around the burn scar in order to protect our neighborhoods. The call to action served as a powerful reminder: public health is a team sport.

But our most vital teammates aren't just the technicians in the field, they are the students in your classrooms.

Last year, over 2,100 SGV students and over 40 teachers joined our mission, bridging the gap between textbook biology and local health and safety. When you bring our free, NGSS-aligned programs into your school, you aren't just teaching life cycles; you are creating the next generation of health heroes who see that science has the power to solve real-world problems.

Why SGV Educators are partnering with EcoHealth?

  • Real-World Phenomena: Use the District’s monthly mosquito report in the Short Bites Monthly Blog or our new SGV Mosquito Match (Sterile Insect Technique) to teach ecology and innovation through a local lens.
  • Service Learning: Transform students from passive learners into active leaders who take public health concepts home to protect their families.
  • Zero-Effort Excellence: We provide the experts, the microscopes, and the tech. You get a high-engagement lab day that checks your curriculum boxes without adding extra work or touching your budget.
