San Gabriel Valley Mosquito & Vector Control District Recognized as “District of Distinction”
Accreditation recognizes SGV Mosquito’s commitment to fiscal responsibility, transparency, and effective public service.

The San Gabriel Valley Mosquito & Vector Control District (SGV Mosquito/District) has earned the “District of Distinction” accreditation from the Special District Leadership Foundation (SDLF), recognizing its commitment to sound fiscal management, government transparency, and responsible district operations.
Serving more than two million residents across the San Gabriel Valley, the SGV Mosquito works year-round to protect public health through mosquito surveillance, mosquito control treatments, and community education. Responsible financial management and transparent governance help ensure public funds are used effectively to maintain these essential services and respond to emerging public health threats, including West Nile virus and dengue.
“Protecting public health comes with a responsibility to the communities we serve and the taxpayers who fund our work,” said SGV Mosquito District Manager Jason Farned. “We take pride in operating with transparency and ensuring public dollars are managed responsibly and used effectively. This recognition reflects our commitment to maintaining the public's trust while delivering the mosquito control services our communities depend on.”

To earn the accreditation, SGV Mosquito underwent an independent review of its financial audits and operational practices over the past three years.
“SDLF provides an independent audit review of the last three years of the district’s operations to ensure prudent fiscal practices,” said Neil McCormick, SDLF Chief Executive Officer. The review is conducted by volunteer professionals from the special district community, including controllers, finance directors, and certified general managers.
In addition to demonstrating sound financial practices, the District's Board of Trustees and executive staff must complete training in public governance, ethics, and harassment prevention. The accreditation also requires the district to meet public transparency standards by making key information readily available on its website, including board meeting schedules and agendas, budgets, financial audits, and compensation disclosures.
The District of Distinction accreditation reflects SGV Mosquito's ongoing commitment to accountability and responsible stewardship of public resources while providing essential mosquito control and disease prevention services throughout the San Gabriel Valley.
