Fall Is Here, But the Bugs Didn't Get the Memo

Even with cooler weather arriving, mosquitoes and black flies are still a concern. Our communities are currently seeing a high number of black flies, which are a nuisance but don't transmit disease in LA County. Mosquitoes, however, can still carry dangerous viruses like West Nile virus and Dengue.

We are actively monitoring and treating public mosquito and black fly breeding sites.

You can help by:

  • Tip & Toss Stagnant Water: Eliminate anything that can hold water to prevent mosquito breeding once a week.
  • Managing Black Fly Sources: Temporarily turn off fountains or water features for 24 hours once a week to disrupt black fly breeding.
  • Use Mosquito Repellent: Apply mosquito repellent whenever you’re outside to prevent bites. Need protection from mosquitoes & black flies? Make sure that your repellent contains the active DEET ingredient.

We have just completed our second round of proactive mosquito control treatments as part of our ongoing response in the Eaton area.

Our crews are actively targeting high-risk mosquito breeding sites, including both full and empty pools that were impacted by the recent wildfires. These treatments are essential to prevent mosquitoes from multiplying by the millions, which significantly reduces the risk of mosquito-borne diseases in the community.
