SGV Mosquito Honored by L.A. County Dept. of Public Health for Collaborative Public Health Response

West Covina, Calif. (November 24, 2025) — The San Gabriel Valley Mosquito & Vector Control District (SGV Mosquito/District) was awarded the 2025 Community Partner Values Award for Collaboration from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (LACDPH). The prestigious recognition recognizes the impact of SGV Mosquito’s control and outreach efforts to protect public health from the threat of mosquito-borne diseases.
The award was presented at LACDPH’s 2025 Giving Thanks Event which celebrates organizations, programs, and initiatives working to protect public health in Los Angeles County. SGV Mosquito was specifically recognized for its robust control efforts, comprehensive outreach, surveillance work, and its collaborative response with LACDPH to local disease threats such as West Nile virus and dengue fever.
“This recognition highlights the value of working together across disciplines to protect public health,” said District Manager Jason Farned. “From our response to the Eaton Fire to coordinated outreach during dengue activity, our dedicated staff serve with urgency, science, and integrity every day.”
The District’s strategy for controlling mosquito-borne disease relies on shared responsibility and strong partnerships with staff, cities, community partners, and residents to increase mosquito awareness and protect public health. Through collaboration with LACDPH, the District shares real-time data on mosquito populations and disease activity to support fast, effective public health outreach.
“The San Gabriel Valley Mosquito & Vector Control District is an extraordinary public health partner,” said Dr. Barbara Ferrer, Director of the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health. “Their team brings deep expertise, unmatched local knowledge, and a true commitment to our community. Whether it’s rapid response during wildfires, year-round surveillance, or community education, the District consistently delivers high-quality work that protects the health of millions of residents. We are grateful for their dedication and proud to recognize them for their leadership and collaboration.”
