Mosquito season is in full swing in the San Gabriel Valley.
As temperatures rise and mosquito populations increase, our district remains committed to protecting your community through targeted, strategic treatments.

Mosquitoes are persistent, but so are we.
We’re calling on the community to join the fight. Follow these three simple steps to help reduce mosquito sources and bites:

  • Tip out stagnant water to prevent mosquitoes from growing around your home.
  • Toss unused containers that can collect water and attract mosquitoes.
  • Protect yourself and your loved ones by using insect repellent to stop the bite before it happens.

DID YOU KNOW?
Mosquitoes can go from egg to full-grown, biting adults in just 5 to 7 days! That’s why it’s so important to act fast and stay consistent with prevention.

Tip water, toss containers, protect with repellent.

Remember: Tip. Toss. Protect.
Together, we can keep our community safe.

In our foothill communities, mosquitoes aren’t the only vectors to be aware of.
Another small biting insect, the black fly, is a growing nuisance in these areas. Known for targeting the face and neck with painful, itchy bites, black flies thrive in the foothills due to their preference for breeding in running water.

Much like mosquitoes, our team of trained technicians is actively treating the foothill areas to reduce black fly populations. However, their breeding sites are often influenced by natural sources and essential infrastructure that are beyond our control.

Tips for Staying Safe in the Foothills:

🕓 Avoid Peak Hours

  • Black flies are most active after sunrise and before sunset.

👕 Dress for Defense

  • Wear light-colored clothing.
  • Cover exposed skin as much as possible.
  • Use a head net to protect your face.

📍 Choose Locations Wisely

  • Avoid areas with high black fly activity, such as places near running water or dense vegetation.

🧴 Use Repellent

  • Apply insect repellent containing DEET.
  • Reapply as directed by the label.
May contain: animal, insect, and invertebrate
We continue to provide excellent science education services and reduce mosquitoes in homes and schools within the San Gabriel Valley.
