At the San Gabriel Valley Mosquito and Vector Control District, we believe that some of the most powerful sources of education can be found in our own backyards. Our mission is to protect our neighbors from mosquitoes and the diseases they spread (like West Nile virus and Dengue) and we invite educators to join us in empowering students to become the next generation of public health leaders.

Public Health as a Classroom Spark

Today’s educators are looking for ways to make science feel interactive and relevant. Our free, NGSS-aligned EcoHealth programs show how modern science can motivate students to take an active role in community health and disease prevention.

Public health is a journey that involves the whole community

One of the most rewarding aspects of our EcoHealth Vector Education programs is watching students transform into the next generation of public health experts.

Through our Pre-K, Kinder through 6th-grade, middle and high school students experience community science firsthand as they:

  • Identify Local Threats: Spotting potential mosquito habitats right where they live, go to school, and play.
  • Master Technical Tools: Collecting and analyzing water samples to monitor for mosquito activity, just like our professional specialists.
  • Protect the Community: Gaining the life-saving knowledge needed to reduce the risk of disease for their families and neighbors.
