Second Grade "Different Faces for Different Places"

Second Grade Highlights

CA NGSS 2-LS4-1. LS4.D: “Biodiversity and Humans,” There are many different kinds of living things in any area…which exist in different places on land and in water. Two main determinants for the distribution of life on earth: Non-living elements and living factors. Conditions change over time, especially where there is human activity. Those changes can favor one kind of living thing over another. Human activity, increasingly, plays a major role the changes we are seeing around the world.

What Students Learn: Human activities have favored certain kinds of mosquitoes and provided them with an easy way to travel long distances. We are finding new kinds of mosquitoes in places they weren’t found before, because we provide for them “a place for their face!” Conclusion includes mosquito source identification, source reduction practices, and bite prevention information.
