Surveillance Department

The Surveillance Department monitors the abundance of disease-carrying insects and occurrences of vector-borne diseases, as well as all technical aspects of the overall program.
The disease surveillance program serves as an early warning system in the detection of mosquito-borne viruses that can infect people and animals. Testing for the presence of viruses and other pathogens in mosquitoes and wild birds helps identify disease transmission before human cases occur.
The Scientific Program continues to collaborate with local agencies, national agencies and universities on studies surrounding emerging vector and disease issues.
