Illness
caused by West Nile virus (WNV) infection has been confirmed by the USDA's
National Veterinary Services Laboratories (NVSL) and causes nearly 30% fatality
in non-vaccinated horses.
Vaccines are
available for horses: two shots given 3-4 weeks apart are recommended with
annual or bi-annual boosters as determined by veterinarian.
